What is Physical Well-being?
What is Physical Well-being?
Physical well-being is about being safe, sheltered and in good health and it is closely connected to mental and social well-being.
If we have good physical health, it helps to align our overall wellbeing.
Physical wellbeing isn’t just about exercising and doing things that impact your body positively. It’s also about avoiding things that impact your body negatively.
Nutrition
One of the easiest ways to improve our physical wellbeing is by maintaining a healthy and balanced diet. Eating the right foods for our body gives us less chance of many of the health concerns that exist today as well as providing us with sufficient energy that is required to take part in physical activities such as dance.
Hydration
Staying hydrated is so important when is comes to maintaining a positive physical wellbeing. The human body is approximately 60% water and if hydration is not practised, our bodies cannot be expected to function efficiently and carry out the physical tasks that it needs to.
The human brain is approximately 73% water. If you’re not staying hydrated, how can you expect to think clearly, make good decisions and have an optimal functioning brain?
Exercise
The benefits of exercise is endless and when it comes to our physical state and wellbeing, exercise can help us hugely by improving;
Muscular and cardiorespiratory fitness
Core strength & Balance
Bone health & function
Mental health & mood
The body’s ability to manage blood sugar and insulin
Improves sleep
The list of benefits is endless.
How do you promote physical wellbeing in class?
It can be difficult to promote physical wellbeing within a class environment as you don’t want to single out individual students or make anyone uncomfortable, which is why our workshops are designed to help all students in a generalised manner so they do not feel isolated in the learnings.
